I was so excited to get The Nourished Kitchen by Jennifer McGruther in the mail a few weeks ago. The book is full of farm to table recipes and old style food fermentation and storage ideas. It is especially welcome as my garden kicks it into high gear and I need ideas for extra beans and surplus herbs! I already make my own yogurt but I can't wait to try out the Scandinavian style of yogurt recipe. I'm also very excited about the sourdough and fermentation recipes.
The book is broken into 8 chapters starting with the garden and ending with the larder. Some of the chapters in between are the pasture, waters and the wild (love the idea of knowing what I can find in the fields for free!). I do wish there were a few more pictures of some of the recipes (I have a hard time picturing what little sourdough dumplings with venison should look like (although it sounds great!) Over all I am super excited to try out recipes and add my own twists to them. I also love that McGruther has a Pintrest account with even more recipes to try out! (http://www.pinterest.com/jennynk/)
