Swimming and other fun stuff!

Orson went to the pool for the first time on Friday and loved, loved, loved the water. He is going to be a waterbaby like his mama. We met up with some of the other moms and babies from our Wednesday Moms Group and we really enjoyed watching everyone play and learn from each other.

Afterward, we went for ice cream with Lucy and her mom Gina. Orson took another ride on the coin car....its amazing to see the difference in him between now and the first time we went with Kelley and Brayden.

Over the last few weeks Orson and I have been spending more and more time with the Moms and babies from our group. It has been wonderful and Orson has been making friends with some pretty cool cats! Below are a few of them:

Lucy, Madox, Will and Orson all got together for a spin around Will's new play mat!

Linden (above) and Madox (below) came out for the swim party.

Orson has also been playing the field and has two girlfriends, one is of course Lucy, who I watch every Monday and Thursday. Orson and she enjoy going for long walks together, especially now that I added a double stroller into the mix.

and the other is fellow giant baby Penelope, you can read more about her at her mom's blog PB&J

We have also been adding to Orson's food repertoire. A few days ago we took out his feeding sack and put some fresh honeydew in it during dinner.....I got up to get some water and Matt turned to look at the computer, we looked back and Orson had reached for the container that had Matt and I's honeydew in it. I guess he really liked it, since he went with the adage: if you cover every piece in oatmeal then you get to eat them all yourself :)

He has decided he loves carrots, sweet potatoes with cinnamon in them, shockingly tart apricots and papaya. And of course oatmeal remains high on the list.

All of this work has left Orson a tired boy....I just love the positions he falls asleep in!

Happy Father's Day!

This weekend was Father's Day weekend and we spent most of Saturday and Sunday enjoying time with Dad. On Saturday we went vacuum shopping and splurged (calorie count wise) with a big home baked breakfast and lunch/dinner at the Squeeze Inn featured on Rob on the Road and Dinner, Drive-ins and Dives. The cheeseburgers were to die for...I love crispy burnt edge cheese and these are covered in a pound of it!!!. On Sunday we went to Mass and then attended the annual Firefighter's Father's Day brunch in the social hall....all I can say is yummy, yummy strawberries and amazingly good pancakes (and french toast, biscuits, milk shakes etc). In the afternoon we took Matt to play Frisbee Golf for the first time here in Sacramento (he had no idea that I had researched the local courses and was happily surprised), opened his gifts (a cold brew coffee maker from Toddy and a picture cube for work) and wrapped the day up watching the first Top Gear of the season. I think that we did a pretty good job making Matt feel special this weekend...what do you think Matt?

I worked hard during the week to make Orson an awesome outfit to wear for Father's Day

Orson was more interested in chewing up the Frisbee then throwing it.

And to finish the post off....a movie of Orson walking (holding my hands of course) made on our new Mac!

June Craft Challenge

Well, I had a hard time getting into the craft challenge this month. The wedding themed supplies just didn't inspire me (I like lots of color, plain white is not my thing) but the entire point of joining into the challenge for the entire year was to give me one thing a month that I would accomplish outside of being a wife and a new mom....so I sat down this evening and bit the bullet (with the help of my husband). After taking one look at the supplies, Matt decided that I should make a "tacky snow globe" and I turned that into an inside-out snow globe. What started out as a tacky snow globe actually turned into a rather nice looking home made winter wedding invitation. Which, I guess is the entire point of why I wanted to subscribe to this challenge, to prove that I do have a brain that can come up with original ideas still ;) Without further ado...here is my challenge project:

Yummy in my Tummy

I'm in love with making slide shows!

"Two babies are cuter then one" and other adventures at the Ewalt house

This week Orson and I have started having regular play dates with Lucy. She is 5 days older then Orson and I will be watching her on Mondays and Thursdays until she is at least one! So far they both seem to have tons of fun with each other, and as Lucy gets settled in, I haven't found it to overwhelming to have two little ones in the house. In fact, watching them interact and learn from each other has been very entertaining.

Orson and I also made a trip to the San Fransisco Aquarium with some of the moms and babies from our Wednesday group. The trip went really well and the stories made Matt so jealous that we ended up going again that weekend. All new parents should be given a fish tank on their way out of the hospital, Orson was just in love! Of course, when I had to get new tires later in the week, he was just as enthralled by the men and tires behind the glass at the tire shop, the aquarium was less expensive but just barely :) Unfortunately we couldn't use our flashes inside the aquarium so the pictures came out fuzzy but I think you get the gist from the few below.

I have also been having a hard time finding shoes with soft soles for Orson's hudge feet (he is already in toddler size 4 and most of those come with stiff bottoms for cruising toddlers) so I decided to give making my own a go. These were easily made with felt and suede...next I am going to try sandals.

Orson seemed to like them.

We aslo went to Orson's 4month check up...he is now 28 inches (way above even the 95 percentile) and 17.2 lbs. He also has his first tooth poking out (boy is it sharp), so all in all its been a busy couple of weeks around here.
Lastly, here are a few cute pictures from the last few weeks.

Orson Sleeping

Sleeping Olympics

I always thought is was a little over the top to say that watching a baby sleep could be an Olympic sport. Now that Sir Orson von Tootentimer is here (he earned that nickname at a very young age and recent behaviors have brought it back to the forefront), I can see that sleeping could be an Olympic sport for Orson and is deffinately something that my husband and I love to watch (as proven by the photo montage below).

We saw Orson's first smile and heard his first laughs when he was asleep. The ones that come now when he is awake are amazing but these first sleeping few will always be dear to me.

Orson loves to strick a pose....even in his sleep

There is something so adorable about a baby so worn out that he just falls asleep whereever he is...the car, the museum, a noisy airplane.

Now that Orson is rolling around and sleeping on his stomach, I never know what postition I will find him in. He seems to perfer being wedged into the corners or, like here, he gets himself stuck cross-ways.

My favorite, is when I walk in and find him all spread out and taking up as much of the crib as possible.

and of course the absolut best is when he wakes up and makes a funny face at the camera!

I discovered this awesome website, animoto, a few weeks ago and thought I would give it a try with some of the pictures from this post....for free! I created a 30 sec show complete with music and then downloaded it, all in just a few minutes. You can see it in the post before this one.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Mom....I miss you everyday, keep watching over Orson and the rest of our family.
